Scouts and Guides | Youth Club |
History
The Youth Club began in 2003 , following an initiative by Bishop Kieran. "Gathering Together" encouraged parishes to explore what they could do to improve their communities.
Five young people decided that St Clements should have a youth group and promptly started one. This has continued ever since, assisted by a team of very supportive parents.
Meetings
The group meets monthly (except for August) on the
2nd Sunday of the month
Each meeting is supervised by parents on a rota basis.
Activities and Outreach
Outings to Box Hill, Guildford Laserquest and 3 nights at a Youth hostel in the New Forest have proved popular. This year the group ventured into camping! They spent a night away at Horsley near Guildford. They hope to make youth hostelling and camping annual events.
As a parish group, the youth group have organised some parish fundraising events.
They have run quiz nights, discos and more recently a fashion show.
Plans are in the pipeline for another quiz , a Parish Sunday lunch/supper ,
a Christmas party and delivery of hampers to the housebound and lonely. This latter outreach activity may be done in co-operation with the SVP.
Regular Youth Club Nights
Typical activities include table tennis, volleyball, darts, pool, listening to music, rounders and football when the weather allows. Light snacks and soft drinks are provided.
