Evil triumphs when good people remain silent and do nothing.

Good morning,
Many countries and corporations have become rich through a model of industrialisation that has pushed the planet to the brink of catastrophic climate change. But, it is the poorest, most marginalised communities in the world that will be hit the hardest by climate change.
300,000 deaths are already caused by climate change every year. Millions are at threat from famine, disease, drought, flooding and ultimately death.
In a world with limited capacity to absorb carbon emissions, we have already used more than our fair share. We now owe a massive climate debt to the world’s poorest people.
Next month between 7th and 18th December world leaders will meet in Copenhagen at the UN Climate Change conference to decide vital climate change agreements.
Copenhagen is a key moment in human history: get it right and we may bring climate change under control. Get it wrong and we may saddled with the catastrophic consequences of inaction.
We know we can't just leave it up to the politicians alone.
Next Saturday 5th December, a critical time, right ahead of the talks, Stop Climate Chaos, - a coalition of over 100 major charities, green groups and unions, representing 11 million supporters is organising The Wave. A human wave of tens of thousands of people will flow through the streets of London in support of a fair and binding climate change deal in Copenhagen.
Highlights of The Wave include CAFOD activities for children and young people, video diaries and face painting and more. At 11am at Westminster Central Hall there will be an ecumenical service led by Archbishops Vincent Nichols and Rowan Williams. This will lead into a fun and peaceful march around the Thames culminating in a mass moment at 3pm when we encircle parliament and call for action to the chimes of Big Ben. The dress code is blue… so where something blue, paint your face or hands blue, carry blue banners.
Full details including train times from Stoneleigh and Ewell West stations are in an invitation leaflet (wave leaflet) to be handed out after all Masses this weekend and there is a board in the church porch with details. This is a family friendly day out so do not hesitate to bring your children. After Mass I will be available with other St. Clement’s CAFOD and Justice and Peace members to answer your questions.
History shows that ‘People Power’ has an enormous influence on governments, and together we can help bring about a global revolution, make governments take climate change seriously and actually tackle it.
So, if up until now you've felt helpless and without a voice, this is your chance to make a difference. SK
